Gold and platinum coloured decorations contain salts of precious metals (gold, platinum, palladium) and resin acids – resinates – and melting agents, dissolved in oil based solvents. The precious metal content may be between 4% and 16%. The decoration may be glossy, silk-matt or matt, depending on the additives. The paints may be liquid for application with brushes or as thick as paste for direct or indirect screen printing. The firing temperature is, in the case of decoration on glass: 480 -540 °C, in the case of ceramic: 700 – 780 °C, in the case of porcelain: 800 -860 °C. Fired precious metal decorations are not dishwasher resistant.
